OUR MISSION
OUR VISION
USA Slalom Skateboarding is dedicated to fostering the growth, development, and promotion of slalom skateboarding in the United States. Our mission is to unite and empower athletes, enthusiasts, and communities by providing a platform for excellence, inclusivity, and innovation. We are committed to advancing the sport’s standards, safety, and accessibility while instilling a deep respect for the sport’s history and culture. USA Slalom Skateboarding strives to inspire and enable individuals of all ages and backgrounds to experience the thrill of slalom skateboarding, building a vibrant community that celebrates both competition and camaraderie.
USA Slalom Skateboarding is committed to creating a safe and positive environment for athletes’ physical, emotional and social development, and to ensuring that it promotes an environment free of misconduct. USA Slalom Skateboarding is committed to improving the development and safety of athletes and participants involved in sport. The story of USA Slalom Skateboarding began in 2021 when a committee was formed under USA Skateboarding to represent slalom in the USA. That committee led by Di Dootson – handled the USA Slalom Skateboarding National Team selection and organization for slalom’s debut at World Skate Games 2022 in Argentina. Our President, Joe McLaren, and Vice-President, Maria Carrasco, were both part of that committee from the beginning. In 2023, Di stepped down and Joe McLaren took over as Chairman. Though 2023 was the off year for World Skate Games, the committee put a qualification event plan in place to choose the 2024 team and helped with Worlds in USA and other national events/efforts.
USA Skateboarding reorganized mid-season 2023 and under that new leadership, has decided to go forward with a new affiliate structure plan. The new structure called for slalom to officially organize as a corporate entity and operate as an affiliate of USA Skateboarding. To that, we are excited to announce the establishment of our new non-profit formed late 2023 – USA Slalom Skateboarding Inc, which was granted 501(c)(3) status in November of 2023. These are all positive steps toward our ultimate goal of getting our sport to the Olympics – raising our credibility to the top level and opening up further-reaching exposure opportunities on the world stage!
USA Slalom Skateboarding’s strategy is anchored in supporting and growing slalom skateboarding at all levels and will be achieved by focusing on our three pillars of success:
Growth
Grow our next generation by continuing to advance our juniors race circuit and events and looking for new ways to support and recruit youth athletes.
Support
Support our community and race organizers by offering clinics, hosting events and providing guidance to regional slalom event organizers.
Progress
Strengthen our elite and push our sport to the highest level by supporting our top racers travel to high level races, sending our USA Athletes to the bi-annual World Skate Games, continuing our strategic partnerships with USA Skateboarding, the International Slalom Skateboarding Association and World Skate to have slalom skateboarding included as an Olympic discipline, and get more recognition and exposure of our top skaters.
