About USA Slalom Skateboarding
OUR MISSION
OUR STORY
USA Slalom Skateboarding, Inc. (USASSI) is the official governing body for slalom skateboarding in the United States and an affiliate of USA Skateboarding (USAS). As the organization recognized by World Skate as the national governing body for skateboarding in the USA, USAS provides the framework for USASSI’s efforts to promote and grow slalom skateboarding. Established in November 2023, USASSI operates as a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation dedicated to advancing the sport nationwide.
USA Slalom Skateboarding is dedicated to fostering a safe and positive environment for athletes’ physical, emotional, and social development. We are committed to promoting a culture free from misconduct while prioritizing the well-being and safety of all participants in the sport.
The story of USA Slalom Skateboarding began in 2021, when a committee was formed under USA Skateboarding to represent the slalom discipline in the United States. Under the leadership of Di Dootson, the committee managed the selection and organization of the USA Slalom Skateboarding National Team for slalom’s historic debut at the 2022 World Skate Games in Argentina.
From its inception, our current President, Joe McLaren, and Vice President, Maria Carrasco, have been integral members of the committee. In 2023, Di stepped down, and Joe McLaren assumed the role of Chairman. Although 2023 was an off year for the World Skate Games, the committee remained active, developing a qualification event plan to select the 2024 team and supporting key initiatives, including the World Championships in the USA and other national events.
In mid-2023, USA Skateboarding underwent a reorganization under new leadership, introducing a revised affiliate structure. As part of this plan, slalom skateboarding was tasked with formally organizing as a corporate entity to operate as an official affiliate of USA Skateboarding.
In response, USA Slalom Skateboarding, Inc. was established as a non-profit organization and granted 501(c)(3) status in November 2023. This milestone marked a significant step forward in our journey toward achieving the ultimate goal: bringing slalom skateboarding to the Olympics. By elevating our credibility and expanding global exposure opportunities, we have begun to pave the way for the sport’s future on the world stage.
USA Slalom Skateboarding’s strategy is anchored in supporting and growing slalom skateboarding at all levels and will be achieved by focusing on our three pillars of success:
Growth
Grow our next generation by continuing to advance our juniors race circuit and events and looking for new ways to support and recruit youth athletes.
Support
Support our community and race organizers by offering clinics, hosting events and providing guidance to regional slalom event organizers.
Progress
Strengthen our elite and push our sport to the highest level by supporting our top racers travel to high level races, sending our USA Athletes to the bi-annual World Skate Games, continuing our strategic partnerships with USA Skateboarding, the International Slalom Skateboarding Association and World Skate to have slalom skateboarding included as an Olympic discipline, and get more recognition and exposure of our top skaters.
